Frank Verderame, Firm Partner

I’ve had the privilege of representing people who have suffered the most scary, catastrophic injuries that you can imagine. From brain injury, to paralysis, burn injuries, death of a family member: It’s always hard to do, especially when you grow to know and love your clients. And that’s been the biggest reward of my career.

In 38 years of doing this and representing folks, nothing makes me happier than something that happened last Christmas. Got a Christmas card from a boy who had suffered a terrible brain injury, and we sued and he got some money, and he used that money putting in effect a life care plan that our expert put together in the case.

And his dream was to fly an airplane someday, ’cause his father was a pilot. And at Christmas time he sent me a card, and there he was in front of a Cessna. He had taken his first flight as a pilot. A boy who couldn’t walk and couldn’t talk flew an airplane. Now granted, it took 18 years of work, but he did it.

That is the bigger reward, the biggest reward that I get from my job. And that’s why I love doing it, and will do it for as long as I can.

I’m not just practicing law 100% of the time; I do other things. I have been on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Clubs for more than 30 years, and involved with various children’s charities. And I’m a baseball coach – or have been, I’m not coaching right now – but I have done that for many years. And along with my wife, we’re involved with some charities for the poor. And so, been involved a little bit politically, but most of that’s been to try to protect the rights of clients and folks that I represent, so that they can maintain the right to sue. And that’s what I like to do, and hope to keep doing it.
