Panera Sued After Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Peanut Butter Causes Allergic Reaction
The family of a six-year old Massachusetts girl is suing Panera after the restaurant’s employees caused the girl to become extremely ill by putting peanut butter on her grilled cheese sandwich. The girl has a severe peanut allergies, and her family twice made the restaurant aware of such when ordering the grilled cheese sandwich. The restaurant manager told the girl’s father that peanut butter was put on the sandwich by mistake, and blamed a “language” issue, saying that “the person who made the sandwich may have seen the word ‘peanut’ and thought it was an instruction to add it.” The family is claiming negligence by Panera, because it added peanut butter when it was aware of the girl’s life-threatening allergy.
