School District Settles Lawsuit after Student is Injured at Recess
A Billings, Montana school district has settled a lawsuit stemming from the fall, and subsequent skull injury, of a seven year-old student. The student, a second grader at Broadwater Elementary School, fell several feet into a window well. The fall rendered her unconscious. According to the lawsuit, filed by the girl’s mother, the school neither promptly notified the family nor called an ambulance. As a result, when she was picked up from school at the end of the day, the girl began vomiting blood and was taken to the hospital. X-rays revealed a skull fracture. While the school district denies it failed to promptly notify the family, it settled the case with the family for an undisclosed amount.
